About the Event
Making Moves is thrilled to be kicking off a new community pop-up series with a live flamenco performance. The aim of this new initiative is to bring dance and art to communities and neighborhoods directly, particularly during a time when many live performances have been canceled. We are working with local and regional artists to provide programming for their individual communities “pop-up” style, with invitations kept location-specific and with social distancing guidelines in place. Interested? Let us know how we can bring Kansas City dance to you and your neighborhood!
Flamenco is a music and dance form from the South of Spain but it derives from cultures much older than the 19th century when it was first recorded in history. Moorish, Jewish, African, Roma and Andalusian influences made Flamenco and you can see and hear these in the reverberating guitar, the call of the singer and the flow of the dancer's hands. We invite you to join us for an hour long performance by FlamenKcmo to celebrate community and diversity in your neighborhood.
Performance is free to the public and appropriate for all ages. Please observe social distancing at all times and space out blankets on the lawn and chairs on the driveway or stand on sidewalks to watch and enjoy. We look forward to seeing you!
Making Moves is a monthly dance performance series located in Kansas City, Mo, curated and produced by Kyle Mullins. Making Moves is dedicated to the creation and development of new works by local and regional dance makers and to expose Kansas City audiences to a wider array of contemporary dance making. Making Moves provides area choreographers, dancers, and audiences the opportunity to share in the process of new and experimental work in both traditional and non-traditional performance venues. Experimentation, risk-taking, collaboration, and multi-disciplinary approaches are encouraged. Supported by Charlotte Street Foundation, fiscal sponsorship by Fractured Atlas. Head to www.making-moves.org for more information on our programming, how to apply, and how to donate.
