We can all use a little happiness, a few encouraging words right now. That's why artist Adrianne Clayton and I are going to teach a 4-week workshop on flamenco dance and visual art to help kids explore what happiness means in their communities.

About the Event

The project will culminate on World Happiness Day, March 20, 2021, with a virtual celebration featuring a video dance performance and an interactive exhibit. The community will be invited to see the artwork in person, add their own words of encouragement and learn flamenco steps through short videos and also to contribute to the installation of visual works.  Flamenco is a traditional style of dance in Spain. The audience often participates by yelling words of encouragement, like Olé!, to the performers. This is called jaleo, and kids will encourage each other and their community throughout the workshop.    Starting February 24, anyone anywhere can access recordings of each workshop here https://www.kchealthykids.org/the-jaleo-project.html , and share the workshop with community groups of any age. Wyandotte County Girls on the Run teams are participating in a live workshop via zoom.
